In Blue Ridge / Fannin county, we have the majestic Toccoa River. Clear and wonderful to see, the Toccoa River flows into Lake Blue Ridge, creating one of the most beautiful lakes in north Georgia. In Blairsville, Lake Nottely is surrounded by towering mountains and is near the highest peak in Georgia, Brasstown Bald. Nottely River is located in Union County. This mountain river meanders through the beautiful valley's, and then flows into Lake Nottely. This river is a beautiful river as it passes just outside of downtown Blairsville. In the college community of Young Harris, the idealistic Young Harris College is in the middle of town. This community is in a beautiful valley, with mountains peaks over-looking this beautiful mountain community. Brasstown Bald is a few miles from Young Harris. The bold and cold Brasstown Creek meanders throught the valley before it flows into the Hiawassee River. In Hiawassee, one can see why the local indians called the area, "the Enchanted Valley". Now, the high mountain town sits on the southern banks of the beautiful Lake Chatuge, located in Towns County Georgia. The other half of Lake Chatuge is in the North Carolina community of Hayesville. Lake Chatuge is regarded as one of the most beautiful lakes in the Southeastern United States. The Hiwassee River flows into the lake, creating some of the coldest waters this side of Rockies. This is the same Hiwassee River that is famous for trout fishing in Georgia, North Carolina and Tennessee. The Hiwassee River flows into the Tennessee River just north of Chattanooga. Located in Gilmer County, Ellijay is known for its apples. Ellijay is coined as "the apple capitol of Georgia". With hundreds of acres of apple orchards, Ellijay produces some of the sweetest tasting apples in the country. Located just 75 min from downtown Atlanta, many city slickers find there way to this little, but growing community to find a weekend retreat from the city life. There are several rivers in Ellijay. From the cold, clear Ellijay River, this river is teaming with rainbow trout and brook and brown trout. On the eastern side of Gilmer County, the Cartecay River meanders through the apple orchards and valleys and meets the Ellijay River in downtown Ellijay to form the Coosawattee River. The Coosawattee River flows southwest into the newest lake in north Georgia, Carters Lake.
